15. Idaho: Camel Fishing Bans
Fishing regulations typically cover bait types, hook sizes, and the horsepower of boat motors, but this state went out of its way to ban a specific mode of animal transportation. According to local regulations, individuals may not go fishing while riding on the back of a camel. Given the complete lack of native camels in the North American region, this law was unequivocally passed in response to a very specific, historical event. A traveling circus or publicity stunt likely featured an individual using the massive exotic animal in the local rivers, which annoyed local lawmakers enough to warrant drafting official, permanent legislation to ban the practice.
