This incredibly specific livestock ban is rooted directly in a highly documented historical disaster. In the 1920s, a local rancher allowed his tired pack animal to sleep in a heavy cast-iron bathtub located in his front yard. When a massive local dam broke, the ensuing floodwaters washed the buoyant bathtub miles down the valley with the animal trapped safely inside. The town was forced to expend massive amounts of manpower and financial resources to rescue the heavy animal from the wreckage. To strictly prevent a repeat scenario, lawmakers permanently declared that donkeys cannot sleep in bathtubs.
