39. Rhode Island: Nap Lajoie (Woonsocket)
Born to French-Canadian immigrants in Woonsocket, Lajoie worked in textile mills before turning to professional baseball at the turn of the 20th century. He became one of the greatest second basemen and pure hitters in the Deadball Era. In 1901, he won the Triple Crown and posted an absurd .426 batting average, which remains the modern Major League record. He finished his Hall of Fame career with over 3,200 hits.
