Traditional hunting laws typically specify exactly what type of firearms, ammunition, or mechanical traps can be utilized during specific seasons. However, this agricultural state goes out of its way to specify the exact type of pack animal permitted in the wetlands. Hunters are strictly forbidden from engaging in the practice of utilizing a live mule while hunting for ducks. This strange regulation originated in the nineteenth century when lawmakers were attempting to protect the fragile aquatic ecosystems. Using massive, heavy-hoofed mules to aggressively flush birds out of the marshes created an unfair sporting advantage and permanently destroyed the natural nesting grounds.
